He is also fortunate to have a very talented team who share his vision and passion for perfection. His designs are brought to life without getting lost in translation and often they exceed the clients’ expectation.

An awkward slope reduced the backyard to a little used playground for the kids. Brad Talbot from Tri-Green Landscape Design & Construction seized the opportunity to showcase beautiful natural stone steps leading to an interlocking patio complete with a naturalized water feature. The backyard has come of age and is transformed into the family haven.

Large module square-cut flagstone is challenging to handle and install but under the master’s hands all we see is seamless beauty and the timelessness of natural stones. Armour stones and cut steps are carefully selected from the same quarry and the JR Stone verneer completes the finest detail.

Shaped by the earth’s heaving crust, fiery volcanoes, and colliding terraces, the mountains of British Columbia offer unique basalt columns that offer a different dimension to landscaping.

Much of our mountainous west coast is formed of granite, an igneous rock. Here, molten magma crystallized far below the earth’s surface to become one of the largest masses of granite in the world. North of Vancouver, Mount Garibaldi rose through the surrounding ice in a series of volcanic eruption about 20,000 years ago, its granite cone created by the cooling lava.
Seventy kilometres below the Sea to Sky corridor, the Pacific oceanic plate is sliding eastwards below the crust of British Columbia, part of the north american plate. this collision of tectonic plates is the source of British Columbia’s coastal mountain range.

Living walls or green walls are self sufficient vertical gardens that are attached to the exterior or interior of a building. They differ from green façades (e.g. ivy walls) in that the plants root in a structural support which is fastened to the wall itself. The plants receive water and nutrients from within the vertical support instead of from the ground.

“This year’s garden is a whimsical look at garden traditions and the progression of cultural design.  From the steadfast Canadian rose family, we delight the sense of smell.  Visual appeal through fire and reflections catches the eye.  Listen to the magic of the wind and the delicate trickle of water.   City culture is based on different ideas and agendas being put forth into a plan that benefits the greater good.  Designers, contractors, growers, suppliers and volunteers all see the greater good in presenting a space where everyone benefits and can “take time to……..”.

International Garden of Taipei, Taiwan by Ron Holbrook & Associates / Royalty Landscaping
“In keeping with this year’s theme, “CityCulture”, the TAIPEI garden, designed by Landscape Architect Ronald Holbrook, OALA, reflects the primary flora, landscape, and iconic cultural features of the City of Taipei, Taiwan. This contemporary garden, created in the tones of black, grey, white, green and fuchsia, features landmarks of Taipei, such as  Tower 101, colourful Asian paper lanterns, living green wall, water feature/hot springs and formations of pink and fuchsia flowers, shrubs, such as the pink rhododendron, the official flower of Taipei,  and perennials. Miyabi Inc. - Daffodils the Fight is On

Gardeners know how resilient the daffodil can be. For the Canadian Cancer Society, the daffodil is more than just a flower. It is a symbol of strength and courage, a symbol of life.  It says we will fight back. It says we will beat cancer.
Highlighted by daffodils and the cancer stories of those who stand behind this iconic symbol, this garden offers visitors an introspective experience through a series of unique features including a tranquil reflection pond, imposing stone pillars and ending in an arched patio.

“Inspired by the Canada Blooms 2012 theme “CityCulture”, Concrete Bloom Bursts is a contemporary horticultural installation that visually portrays the energy of a city’s culture.
Just as the hardiest plants push through the cracks in our built landscapes, the most creative moments in our culture unexpectedly and courageously push through the cracks of society. There is no stopping the energetic declaration of ideas and passion that come from artists’ unique and insightful translation of how they see the world. We draw inspiration from this beauty and admire its resilience.
As a society, how do we best tap into this energy? How do we nurture the creativity hidden in the cracks?”
